During an interview with Oprah Winfrey aired on CBS on Monday, First Lady Michelle Obama stated, “this past election was challenging for me, as a citizen, to watch and experience. It was painful.”
During a discussion of when she felt the most tested as First Lady, Obama said that while she doesn’t really hold on to bad experiences, something that women, and especially black women do “because there’s so much that comes at us” that “could tear your soul apart if you let it.”
She added, “[T]here are times that, you know, frustrated me. You know, this past election was challenging for me, as a citizen, to watch and experience. It was painful.”
