Esquire’s Charles Pierce: The Electoral College Shouldn’t Vote for Trump

Amid the report that suggests Russia influenced last month’s presidential election that led to the a victory by Donald Trump, Esquire columnist Charles Pierce proposed Saturday on MSNBC’s “AM Joy” that the Electoral College not cast their vote for the president-elect.

“I felt this way in 2000, I feel this way now,” Pierce said “If we’re going to have a constitutional crisis, let’s have one according to the Constitution. The Electoral College should behave as it was designed to behave and as it was explained by Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Papers. It should deny [Trump] an Electoral College victory. It would then go to the House, which I guarantee you because there isn’t an ounce of political courage in the House majority, will probably not certify the election and make him president anyway, but at least we will have followed the forms if not the substance of the Constitution.”
