Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” while discussing the Democrat opposition to  Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said, “These attacks on his personal character about him being some kind of closet racist and what he might have said 30 years or 40 years ago is complete garbage.”

Graham said, “I have known Jeff for 20 years. I think he is a principled conservative. I will have questions for him before the Judiciary Committee. These attacks on his personal character about him being some kind of closet racist and what he might have said 30 years or 40 years ago is complete garbage. Jeff Session is one of the finest people I have ever known. I don’t think there is a hateful bone in his body. We have some policy differences. So I’ll be glad to challenge Jeff when we disagree, but support him in terms of him being a good, decent man. And to my Democratic colleagues, watch what you do here.”

He added, “This equation of being a conservative means you are a racist. I’m not going to put up with that. I come from South Carolina. We have had our challenges in the past, we still have our challenges. But I’m not going to sit idly by and watch Jeff Sessions be maligned because he doesn’t deserve that.”
