On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” columnist Charles Krauthammer stated that President-Elect Donald Trump’s statement that he doesn’t wish to pursue charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shows Trump believes “you say what’s useful at the time,” and that Trump says things “provisionally.”
Krauthammer said, “I think what it indicates is that he tends to say things provisionally. He says what he needs to say at the moment, if he’s in the middle of a debate, or if he wants to rouse a crowd, he’ll say ‘lock her up,’ or he’ll encourage ‘lock her up,’ and he’ll kind smile and do it. But in the end, he tends to shift. I mean, look, we have seen lots of shifts on lots of issues. Today, waterboarding, I mean, there’s a lot fof stuff going on. And it makes you think that when he — what he believes about campaigning is, you say what’s useful at the time, and then later, you figure out how you want to go.”
