Tuesday, a group of NFL players visited Washington D.C. to discuss police brutality and race issues with members of Congress.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Anquan Boldin, fellow Lion and safety Glover Quin, Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown and Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins all joined forces to meet with Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL), Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus in hopes to build a bridge between law enforcement and minorities.
ESPN’s Jim Trotter also said the players met with the Office of Public Engagement at the White House before meeting with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
“They’re trying to sort out some complicated things,” Ellison said. “They can make a huge difference because they speak for a generation. They don’t really have anything to gain by offering their views on police community relations. As a matter of fact, some people just want athletes to be quiet and play ball.”
Trotter reported that the group of NFL players left “encouraged and excited” about their “productive trip.”
