During the Wednesday broadcast of “First Take” on ESPN2, co-host Stephen A. Smith weighed in on the results of the 2016 presidential election, saying that while President-Elect Donald Trump “clearly earned” the presidency, it is “undeniable” a “whole bunch of white folks” came out to vote for him.
“We all know if we’re looking at the election here, it’s undeniable that you had a whole bunch of white folks who came out and voted for Donald Trump. Certainly he did better in the black community than was anticipated, he did better in the Latino community than was anticipated, and he deserves a great, great deal of credit,” Smith said.
He continued, “I can’t take anything away from him from the standpoint of how hard he worked during this campaign. Wherever Hillary and President Obama showed up, he was in some small town right in the neighborhood, you know, campaigning himself. He worked tirelessly. He did a bevy of interviews. He worked the heck out of this campaign and clearly earned the victory. And we’ve got to give him his due respect for that.”
