In a quick essay for Fox Sports 1’s “Speak for Yourself,” co-host Jason Whitlock hammers the progressive media for trying to demonize football and the NFL, which he likened to the underground railroad for getting black men out of poverty.
“Let me hit you with an inconvenient truth. The NFL has been better to black people than any industry in American history. The NFL is the modern day underground railroad from poverty to prosperity for black men,” Whitlock says.
He adds, “Let [progressives] paint the picture that the negatives of football outweigh the positives. It’s fun for progressives to continue to root against an industry that has been very good to poor black people, providing father figures, role models, scholarships, motivation to education and generational wealth at the highest level.”
