FS1’s Katie Nolan Calls for Rehab for NFL Domestic Abusers in Place of Zero Tolerance Policy

During Wednesday’s “Garbage Time” on Fox Sports 1, host Katie Nolan slammed the NFL over how it handles domestic violence, particularly with the most recent case involving former New York Giants kicker Josh Brown.

Instead of the usual “domestic incident, short suspension, outrage, new evidence comes out, more outrage, Commissioner’s Exempt List, cut from the team, rinse and repeat,” Nolan called for the NFL to require its domestic abusers and victims to undergo counseling.

“In domestic violence cases, zero tolerance policies have been found to be not just ineffective, but in some cases harmful because they take an already daunting list of reasons a victim is afraid to come forward, and add to that it will cost their partners their job,” Nolan said.

She later added, “[I]nstead of punishments and bans and the commissioner’s naughty list or whatever, what if we demanded the league get serious about counseling and support support services for players and their families?”
