Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” State Department spokesman John Kirby denied the allegation of a “quid pro quo” between the FBI and the State Department involving Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s email while she was secretary of state.
Kirby told “Fox & Friends” both the FBI and State Department investigated and it wasn’t true in their view.
“We looked into this,” he said. “The FBI looked into this and it’s just not true. There was no quid pro quo even suggested or any kind of bargain laid on the table. What did happen was Pat Kennedy did talk to the FBI as he did on other email traffic that we’re getting ready to release through FOIA to discuss and to better understand why they wanted [this email] classified.”
When Kirby was pressed about the language in the email released a day earlier specifically suggesting a “quid pro quo,” he denied that the suggestion was followed through.
“If that in fact had happen — yeah, you’re right,” he replied. “The individual who said that wasn’t one of the two individuals involved in the conversation. Pat Kennedy and the other FBI official was no the person who gave this interview. I can’t speak to what that individual remembers or how they remember it.”
