During an interview on MSNBC on Thursday, former Attorney General Eric Holder stated that while he couldn’t make a legal determination about whether Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s statement about Russia accessing Democratic presidential nominee former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails is a crime, “I’d be a little concerned, if I were him about having made that request, and whether or not some prosecutor some place wants to look into it.”
Holder said that Trump’s statement was a disqualifier, and shows a lack of judgement. He added, “Now, whether it’s actually broken the law, I mean, I think you’d have to do a little more research. But I’d be a little concerned, if I were him, about having made that request, and whether or not some prosecutor some place wants to look into it.”
He later stated that “there can be legal implications” if you ask someone to hack into someone email.
Holder concluded, “[Y]ou’d have to look at the exact words that were used. You’d have to look and see what preparation he made in anticipation of expressing those kinds of words. I don’t think you can really make a legal determination on the basis of, at least, what I’ve seen on television so far.”
