During CNN’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, CNN Senior Political Commentator and former Senior Adviser to President Obama David Axelrod argued that there could have been “a healing moment” at the DNC if the families of slain cops had been onstage with the “Mothers of the Movement,” some of whom have lost children to police shootings.
Axelrod agreed with fellow panelist and CNN host Michael Smerconish’s argument that the families of slain police officers should have been invited to the DNC as well, and that concern for the victims of police shootings and slain police officers shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. Axelrod continued, “I think this was a missed opportunity.”
He added, “[T]he families of police officers grieve for their losses as well, and it would have been a healing moment to get everyone on the same stage to say, we have to stop the violence. Stop the violence.”
