Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” NBC’s “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd argued presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump picking Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN) as his running mate is “risky” because Trump would be going “conventional,” which he suggested deviates from his playbook that took him to the nomination.

“Was Trump as enthusiastic about Pence as say, the political advisers? Does Trump feel like he was cornered a little bit? You know what I mean? We don’t fully know. I have to say, just watching all this, you just got to ask, what is it that Pence never fit what Trump is, right? Picking Pence is the ultimate sort of normal, political, insider thing to do, which is so counter to how Trump has run his campaign and Trump a has run his candidacy. So, I have to say even though it seems like the safe and logical pick on one hand if you’re treating Donald Trump as if you were just the generic Republican politician for the last 40 years. But this is actually a very risky thing for Trump to do, which is go conventional, right? And I don’t know if he’s comfortable going this conventional and I think we saw a little bit of that discomfort play out yesterday, to be honest.”
