Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Bloomberg Politics Mark Halperin told host Joe Scarborough he sees presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick coming down to one of two candidates: Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN) and Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ).

According to Halperin, if Trump goes with his “head,” he’ll pick Pence and if he goes with “gut,” he’ll pick Christie.

“Pence is a careful figure,” Halperin said. “Gingrich and Christie, like Trump, will say anything and blurt stuff out. I still think what I thought yesterday, assuming there is no surprise pick. I’ve been assured now – this what Trump told The New York Times – there isn’t a surprise pick. It’s down to a small group that we’re talking about. If he goes with his head, he’ll pick Pence. If he goes with his gut, he’ll pick Christie.”

“Trump always says he’s a gut guy,” he continued. “I thought he’d pick Christie from the beginning. Right now my hunch is it is one of those two guys. And like I said, if he goes safe, he’ll pick Pence.”

Halperin went on the downplay the prospect of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) being named as the pick and said he hasn’t heard any of the buzz surrounding Sessions as the others over the past 10 days.
