DHS Secy Johnson Declines To Name Legislation That Would Have Prevented Orlando, Says Gun Control ‘Matter of Homeland Security’

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson stated that gun control is “a matter of homeland security,” but chose only to say that “There are a lot of ideas in Congress right now” when questioned on which “legislative response” would have prevented the terrorist attack in Orlando, Florida.

Johnson was asked, “So, what is the actual legislative response that would have prevented a situation like we had in Orlando?”

He answered, “There are a lot of ideas in Congress right now. I just think that when you look at Orlando, you look at San Bernardino, we have to face the fact that responsible, sensible gun control is now a matter of homeland security. It’s not just a matter of public safety. It is a matter of homeland security that we address this on a national level. This is something we’ve got to face and we’ve got to do to minimize the opportunities for a terrorist to get ahold of a gun, one way or another. It’s a matter of homeland security that we take this on.”
