Stephen A. Smith: ‘There Are People in Chicago Who Feel Less Important Than a Gorilla’

Director Spike Lee was in studio for ESPN2’s “First Take” to discuss his movie “2 Fists Up,” which documents the University of Missouri football team’s boycott amid the Concerned Student 1950 movement.

The discussion moved to Lee’s other film “Chi-Raq,” which is about Chicago’s gun violence and black-on-black crime.

“First Take” co-host Stephen A. Smith called it a “pretty sad damn day” when Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly is highlighting the violence in Chicago.

Smith noted that Harambe the gorilla has gotten more publicity than murders in Chicago, and later said, “This last week, there are black folks in Chicago who feel less important than a gorilla. That’s the reality.”
