Wednesday on 770 WABC’s “The Bernie & Sid Show,” entrepreneur Mark Cuban said presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump “wants to be a pep rally president.”
Cuban said, “When Donald beat the other 16, I really thought that he would start to dig in on the issues and he would evolve some. You know, because this is the most important office in the world. You got to dig in and learn. You gotta, you know, try and continue to get more knowledgeable because there is so much at stake. He hasn’t done that and that. And that been a real disappointment for me. And I told him that directly and I have I told him I don’t have a problem saying it publicly. If you look now at Donald Trump from 10 months ago, you don’t say—boy all of a sudden he’s got so much smarter on the issues—he’s gotten a much more nuanced understanding of the Middle East, or anything for that matter, and to me that is disappointing.
He added, “He wants to be a pep rally president, you know. And what I mean by that is—when you stand up in front of a pep rally for your school, for your team, for the the Jets, for the Giants, for whoever—the Yankees, the Mavericks—everybody goes, ‘Rah rah rah, we are going to kick your butt, rah rah rah rah rah.’ And you don’t have to get into details.”
On Trump’s business skills, Cuban said, “I know what I’m good at, and I know what I’m not good at. I’m not so sure Donald knows what he’s not good at. What he has done well is put his name on big buildings. He appears to have done well putting his name on a licensing arrangement putting his name on hotels and buildings. He’s good at that. Whether or not that’s made him a billionaire, I don’t know. He’s not transparent enough for us to really know.”
He added, “I think he’s good at real estate; I do give him a lot of credit there. I think he’s good at branding real estate. I don’t think he’s very good at brands for non–real estate products. And, to me, it’s more a reflection of desperation.”
