Friday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Chuck Tood, moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” speculated on the possibility of a debate between presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
On that possibility, Todd suggested ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel as the moderator, since the idea was first floated on Kimmel’s program.
“We’ll see. I want Jimmy Kimmel to moderate it,” Todd said. “Jimmy Kimmel has to be the moderator, period.”
Todd added that if such a think were a scheduled, he suspected Democrats would pressure Sanders to bow out because it would be a win for Trump, but a “total loser” for Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.
“Strategically, I don’t understand why Trump isn’t like even going gangbusters, saying, ‘Let’s do it. I’ll find the event. I’ll do it because it is win-win for him. It is potentially a good thing for Sanders. But it is a total loser for Hillary Clinton. I think the pressure that would come on Sanders if this thing would come to fruition – the pressure Democrats would put on Sanders to pull out would be great.”
