Bees Follow Car for Two Days to Rescue Queen

A woman in West Wales created some buzz in town after a queen been was stuck in the trunk of her car.

Carol Howarth, 65, may have somehow picked up the queen during a visit to a nature reserve Sunday.

She did not realize she had the extra passenger in her car until she came out of the store only to find her car was covered in bees.

Tom Moses, who works as a ranger at nearby Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, was driving by when he noticed the swarming bees.

“Driving through town noticed this going on outside the Lower Three Crowns and couldn’t resist getting involved!” he wrote in his Facebook post.

Moses called on the help of beekeeper Roger Burns.

“I brought over a cardboard box and carefully brushed them into there as quickly as possible as I was aware it was a big swarm in the middle of the high street,” Burns recalled. “I got about 15 or 20 stings for my trouble. I then left the cardboard box on the roof while we waited for the last few hundred bees to leave the boot but then a gust of wind blew it off and the queen may have fled back to the boot again.”

The bees came back the next morning, but Burns was able to try again and the bees were gone by that evening.
