Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 2012 Obama reelection campaign manager Jim Messina downplayed the possibility of supporters for Demcoratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) going to presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump over Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton should Clinton face Trump in a head-to-head match-up in this November’s general election.

“Oh, come on,” Messina said. “There’s not a chance someone who is going to vote for Bernie Sanders in a primary is then going to go to Donald Trump in a general election. I promise you, that’s not going to happen.”

Messina went on to add he expected Sanders to fall in line behind Clinton just as Clinton did for Obama in the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination contest.
