Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates criticized Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s judgement in using solely a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State and dubbed her “the critical voice” in pushing the intervention in Libya during an interview with Yahoo News Live on Thursday.
Gates said Clinton’s email conduct [relevant remarks begin around 18:50] was “a concern, in terms of judgement.”
He added that while he doesn’t know what originally made her think her email setup was a good idea, “using an offline server, I think, was an error in judgement.”
Gates also stated that Hillary was “the critical voice persuading President Obama to intervene in Libya.” He later added that the failure in Libya was due to a lack of post-invasion strategy, and that the “primary responsibility” for policy coordination lies with the White House, but everyone associated with the Libya invasion bears some degree of responsibility.
