Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough reacted to House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) decision to not immediately endorse the likely presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump in an interview on CNN on Thursday and Trump’s reaction.
According to Scarborough, Trump doesn’t need Ryan’s endorsement.
“The thing here is, it sends a message also to Republicans,” Scarborough said. “Take your endorsement, I don’t really need it … Trump doesn’t need Paul Ryan. It will help him an awful lot.”
He went on to add both played it just right, with Trump pushing back just enough without being too aggressive.
“I’m just saying – at the end of the day, there are a lot more Trump supporters in Janesville, WI than Paul [Ryan] wants to kiss off and sometimes you just have to be willing to tell people, ‘You know, support me if you want. Don’t if you don’t. But you know what? Going back to ‘The Art of the Deal,’ a book I’ve never read – just wanted to get that out there. If Trump were like any other politician, like Mitt Romney, he’d go, ‘I look forward to Paul Ryan look through my charts and position papers and supporting me one day. And so, it’s all in Paul Ryan’s hands.’ No. ‘Screw you, I don’t support you either.’”
“There was a nice enough edge to him and a nice enough pushback that this allows you to do this publicly while you have people privately calling, going, ‘Let’s get you guys together. You guys can figure it out.’”
