Tuesday on CNN’s “Newsroom,” former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), a former candidate for the presidency, said he could not vote for Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) because he “overemphasizes his religion.”
When asked if he would support Cruz if he won the nomination, Paul said, “No, no. He is way too authoritarian, and I think he is, you know, somebody that over emphasizes his religion. I mean, we don’t want people who—we want people to have sound ethical and moral and religious beliefs, but we don’t want them to impose that or think that’s the government’s role. I see him more as a theocrat. I think theocracy’s very, very dangerous.”
