On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Willie Geist criticized Will Ferrell’s planned comedy film depicting former President Ronald Reagan suffering with dementia by saying that he didn’t think Hollywood would do a movie making fun a Democrat with Alzheimer’s.
Geist’s fellow co-host former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough said, “[T]his looks like a horrific idea, from the start. And I can’t believe he’s not going to try to get away from this thing.”
Geist added, “I mean, we don’t know much about the movie, but from the little we know, the idea of making a comedy about Alzheimer’s, whoever it is. If you put the shoe on the other foot, and have Hollywood do that about a Democrat who had Alzheimer’s, I don’t think you’d have that movie.” Panelist Donny Deutsch seemed to agree with this pointing, adding, “Or about somebody with MS, or Parkinson’s.”
Scarborough then said, “I’ve got a mom with dementia. It is a — it’s a horrifying process, and over a long period of time. It’s just, I can’t imagine somebody thinks this is within bounds.”
Geist then stated, “I have a feeling Will may rethink this one before it’s made.”
