WH Spox: Boehner ‘Was Just Looking to be Honest About His Own View’ By Calling Cruz ‘Lucifer’

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest answered a question at Thursday’s White House Press Briefing about former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) saying Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is “Lucifer in the flesh” by remarking that Boehner “was just looking to be honest about his own view.”

Earnest said, “Obviously, Speaker Boehner was speaking based on his own experience. And I’m not sure what he was trying to do. I don’t know that he was looking to be helpful or harmful, I think he was just looking to be honest about his own view.”

He added, “I think if you’re looking for somebody to come to the defense of one Republican who’s being attacked by another, you should probably ask somebody else.”
