Friday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (R-FL) downplayed any possibility of a contested convention at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this summer.
“No, there won’t be a contested convention,” Wasserman Schultz said. “I expect that when we get to the end of our primary nominating contest, between primaries and caucuses, we will have a presumptive nominee before we get to the convention who will be the presumptive nominee based on pledged delegates elected by voters. That’s how it’s always worked, ever since 1984 when unpledged delegates were first created and that’s how I expect it be going into this convention.”
