Bernie Fires Back at Hillary: If You Receive Money From Lobbyists of the Industry, You’re Receiving Money From the Industry

Friday on “CBS This Morning,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, responded to an accusation from his opponent Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton that he was lying about her taking money from the oil and gas industry.

Sanders dismissed Clinton’s complaint and said taking money from lobbyist that represent that industry was the same as taking money from that industry.

“If people receive money from lobbyists of the industry, I think you’re receiving money from the industry,” Sanders said.

Sanders went on to explain his statement to “CBS This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose.

“There’s a difference,” he said. “If you are a lobby from the fossil fuel industry, and there are 50 of you and you make a contribution, that to me, Charlie, is a contribution from the fossil fuel industry. That’s different from saying you get it from Exxon Mobil.”
