Watch: Blue Jays Pitcher Drew Hutchison Hit in Head by Own Catcher’s Throw

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison had a bit of a scare Sunday in a spring training game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In the fifth inning, Rays’ Brad Miller attempted to steal second base on Hutchison. Blue Jays catcher A.J. Jiminez came up firing to try to gun down Miller, and Hutchison turned to watch the play at second.

Unfortunately, Jiminez’s throw was a little low, striking Hutchison in the back of the head.

Miller was credited with the stolen base, and he took third after the ball bounced away from the infielders.

Hutchison was able to walk off the field under his own power when he was removed for precautionary reasons. The 25-year-old right hander told reporters after the game he was “fine.”
