Watch: Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards Threatens to Cut LSU Football

Thursday, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D-LA) addressed the state of Louisiana to discuss the $940 million deficit that the state is facing, per NOLA.com.

Edwards laid out a plan to straighten out the deficit by the end of June with the “largest tax increase in the history of Louisiana.”

Also, Edwards said “you can say farewell to college football in the state,” which would include a consistently top-ranked team in LSU, because of a threatened suspension of spring classes that would make college athletes ineligible.

“Without legislators approving new revenue this special session, some campuses will be forced to declare financial bankruptcy, which would include massive layoffs and the cancellation of classes.

“If you are a student attending one of these universities, it means that you will receive a grade of incomplete, many students will not be able to graduate and student athletes across the state at those schools will be ineligible to play next semester. That means you can say farewell to college football next fall.”
