Oregon State Basketball Player Ejected for Tripping Referee After Not Getting a Call

With three minutes remaining in a tied game between the Oregon State Beavers and the Utah Utes Sunday, Beavers forward Jarmal Reid was sent to the floor by an opponent while trying to secure a loose ball.

Apparently frustrated by a foul not being called, Reid then made eye contact with referee Tommy Nunez as he ran by him and he stuck out his right leg.

Nunez tumbled to the ground, but hopped up immediately to call a flagrant foul on Reid, who was also ejected from the game.

Beavers coach Wayne Tinkle said he would review the whole play with Reid but said his player “swore he didn’t do anything.”

“Obviously, we don’t — ever — want to shed a negative light on our program or university or conduct ourselves in any manner other than first class, on or off the court,” Tinkle added. “I’m just disappointed, very disappointed. It was a hell of a ballgame. It’s a shame, just a shame.”

The Utes went on to win the game 59-53.
