HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher wondered why Hollywood, if it’s so liberal has a “prejudice against nominating black people” during the show’s online “Overtime” segment on Friday.
Maher, during a discussion on whether the Oscars and movies in general are diverse enough, asked, “Why, if they’re so liberal, do they have this prejudice against nominating black people? You’d think they would bend over backwards to nominate the black people.” Maher then raised the prospect that maybe Will Smith wasn’t nominated for Best Actor because the people who were did a better job.
He also quipped, “if you have AIDS or you’re a slave, you’re always gonna win the Oscar.”
