A Florida man was arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run that happened Saturday evening, according to Fox 32 Detroit.
Randy Joe Allen, 54, of Polk City, FL was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, the sheriff’s office said, with additional charges possible pending the results of a blood analysis.
He told deputies that he was driving distracted.
“It is obvious to me he wasn’t paying attention to his driving, he was paying attention to what she was doing and that’s why the crash occurred,” said Polk County, FL Sheriff Grady Judd.
Per the report, Allen met the female passenger at a bar that night. The two were heading down Highway 92 in Auburndale, FL when deputies say Allen hit and killed Terry Ross, 49, who was riding a bike.
Witnesses were able to get the tag number on Allen’s vehicle and quickly rushed to help Ross.
“I think we have one more bad example of what happens when you’re distracted doing anything. Especially doing the nasty. Don’t do it,” Judd said of the incident.
Allen told deputies he thought he hit a stop sign. He has been arrested eight times alone in Polk County, one of which was a DUI in 2008.
While Allen could face additional charges pending the outcome of a blood test, the woman is not expected to be charged with anything.
