According to a report by 11Alive, an attack on an unsuspecting seventh grade student in Georgia left him with a broken nose.

The 12-year-old said the attack came out of nowhere, as he was sitting in his desk when it began. He was hit over 20 times before a teacher broke it up.

The 14-year-old attacker hit his victim so many times that the 12-year-old’s nose had already been broken and his shirt was covered in blood before the teacher could intervene.

This incident report says the attack happened in a supposedly well-monitored suspension room.

According to the victim’s mother, Sabrina Butler, her son was in suspension for throwing papers in class, but has a clean discipline record aside from that. Butler believes this surprise-attack seemed planned, as someone else recorded video while it took place.

The 14-year-old is facing a battery charge.

A spokesperson for Dekalb County Schools would not go into detail about the case, but released the following statement:

“In accordance with federal and state laws, these matters are handled confidentially. The health and safety of all our students is our most important priority.”
