On his Wednesday radio program, host Rush Limbaugh sounded off on the potential House speakership candidacy of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).
Limbaugh admitted liking Ryan and referenced his prior encounters with him at an event hosted by Empower America, a conservative group founded by William Bennett and Jack Kemp in the early 1990s. However, Limbaugh noted he was troubled by the endorsement he received from outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and how that possibly signals a willingness to “bipartisanship.”
“[H]e does not want to have to tell anyone what the agenda is going to be beforehand,” Limbaugh said. “So what are we to do with this? I mean, we also have to take not that Harry Reid is very happy about it, has endorsed him. I’m sorry – it makes me nervous. I’m not interested in bipartisanship and crossing the aisle with these people. I happen to believe that’s the future. The future is defeating these people, not working with. We have tried working with them and they’re not interested and they’re not worth it anyway.”
He also referred to Ryan’s prior statements on the need for so-called comprehensive immigration reform.
“[A]nd then you add to it that Paul Ryan has publicly stated his support for comprehensive immigration reform, which includes amnesty,” he added. “So it becomes problematic.”
