Author Johann Hari stated that solving problems like Syria requires “getting serious about global warming,” which requires campaign finance reform on Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time.”
Hari said, “If you look at why there’s this catastrophe going on in Syria, they had an unprecedented drought leading up to 2011. The water dried up. If you don’t have water, people will do terrible things to each other to get it, right? This is a — same thing happened in Darfur. Global warming is precipitating terrible conflicts. If we really want to deal with these problems, we’ve got to start getting serious about global warming, and that will require exactly the campaign finance reform you’re [Democratic presidential candidate Lawrence Lessig] talking about.
