AL Congressman Mo Brooks: Next Speaker May Be From the ‘More Liberal Wing’ of GOP

During Friday’s Yellowhammer Radio with Cliff Sims, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) discussed the resignation of  House Speaker John Boehner.

While Boehner’s resignation is not effective until October 30, Brooks speculated on who the replacement would be, saying there is a “smorgasbord” of potential replacements “from the more liberal-wing of the Republican Party.”

“There is a smorgasbord from the more liberal-wing of the Republican party. Kevin McCarthy out of California, who is second in command, he’s the House Majority Leader. Also from the more liberal wing would be Cathy McMorris Rodgers out of the state of Washington, she’s from the liberal 25 percent of the GOP conference, as is Kevin McCarthy,” Brooks said.

Brooks did, however, point out there are some potential replacements from the “more conservative half of the GOP.”

He added, “You’ve got perhaps Jeb Hensarling, who is from the more conservative half of the GOP conference, he’s from Texas. Tom Price, I’d also put him in the more conservative half, he’s from Georgia. Potentially Paul Ryan who tends to be more moderate. Perhaps Kevin Brady out of Texas. Marsha Blackburn out of Tennessee.”
