Huelskamp: Boehner Resignation ‘Good For’ GOP, Loss for Establishment, Slams Pres For Shutdown Threat Over PP

Tea Party Caucus Chairman Representative Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) said the resignation of House Speaker Representative John Boehner (R-OH) was a loss of the party establishment and “good for the Republican Party” on Friday’s “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” on the Fox Business Network.

Huelskamp said, “Well, I think today the establishment lost and John Boehner had a long, storied career and did some good things. But I think this is good for the Republican Party. Clearly, if there was another vote for speaker, he was going to lose.”

Huelskamp continued, “We need someone in that chair who actually can lead and articulate, not just vote for conservative principles, and John Boehner hasn’t provided that leadership. … I think the grassroots is tired of the establishment, that’s what we saw today, and — but it’s an opportunity for victory in 2016. If we can go back to the roots of why we won in 2010, 2012, and 2014, and that’s our conservative principles. And I think it’s a great, a good day.”

Huelskamp added that Boehner, ” very rarely presented any plan, it was always reactive,” and “what he did a good job [of] was raising a bunch of money, but it never translated into victories. And it was always in conference with john boehner would stand up say, ‘Well, we can’t do that because the president doesn’t want us to or harry reid won’t let us do that. We want a speaker that says, ‘Yes, we can. We’re going to try on that.'”

Huelskamp then turned to the funding battle over Planned Parenthood, stating, “The president has threatened to shut the government down unless we fund Planned Parenthood,” which he said is a “radical extreme threat, to hold the whole government hostage, for one entity that traffics in baby parts.”
