On Tuesday’s “On the Record” on the Fox News Channel, former NBC “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory made an appearance to promote his new book, “How’s Your Faith?: An Unlikely Spiritual Journey” and he opened about the book and his time at NBC.
Gregory, who served in various roles at NBC and MSNBC, including as the network’s White House correspondent during President George W. Bush’s terms before taking the “Meet the Press” anchor chair, talked about his firing by NBC, to which he blamed ratings.

“I think, you know – we were having ratings problems,” Gregory said. “And I think maybe they wanted to demonstrate they could try to fix a problem they were facing. Don’t forget ‘Today’ show and ‘Nightly News’ were having a lot of ratings issues at the time as well. I don’t know that I would have been [fired] at the time. I just knew that there was a lot of leaking that could have only been coming from NBC and you know Washington — if there is blood in the water. I needed a lot of support over a longer term and they were not prepared to do that. So that’s what happened.”
Host Greta Van Susteren asked Gregory if he missed the job. Gregory said he missed the work, but not his former employer.
“I miss the work,” he replied. “I miss some of the great stories that are going on right now, but I don’t miss being at NBC.”
