Retired linebacker London Fletcher tells Breitbart Sports he wore the Redskins logo with great “pride.”

London Fletcher enjoyed a long, distinguished NFL career before hanging up his cleats following the 2013 season. Amazingly durable, the John Carroll University graduate started 215 straight games, an NFL record for a linebacker. Fletcher wore three different NFL uniforms, suiting up for St. Louis (1998-2001), Buffalo (2002-2006), and Washington (2007-2013).

And while the Obama administration doesn’t like the nickname of his last team, and has threatened to block a stadium project over it, Fletcher has no issue with it. Wearing the Redskins’ logo was a great source of pride for the Cleveland native, who finished his career with 2,046 tackles.

“I loved being a Washington Redskin,” Fletcher, now with CBS Sports, told Breitbart Sports. “I wore the Redskins helmet and emblem when I came out in the stadium for seven years. I would throw that helmet up in the air. For me, it was pride. I used to look at the Redskin the helmet and it was pride. It meant strength, honor, history, tradition.”

“I know Native Americans, some of them have a different view,” Fletcher told Breitbart Sports. “But some of them feel the same way I feel, so it’s kind of like [pick your side]. I wore it with great honor.”

While Redskins owner Daniel Snyder changed quarterbacks earlier this week, don’t expect him to change nicknames anytime soon. He’s not going to cave to Obama like the Republican leadership seems to on most issues. Snyder won’t go down without a fight.

“We will never change the name of the team,” Snyder told USA Today in May of 2013. “As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it’s all about and what it means.

“We’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER—you can use caps.”

And his former four-time Pro Bowl linebacker has his back.
