Jamal Greene, Vice Dean at Columbia Law School remarked that conservatives usually “never” want to change the Constitution, except “when it comes to the 14th Amendment, and a provision of the Constitution that’s actually expanding rights to people of color” on Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Melissa Harris-Perry.”
Greene was asked why many conservatives are calling for an end to birthright citizenship. He answered, “Well, it’s a good question. Usually, when we — when conservatives talk about the Constitution they say, ‘Well, we can’t change this document. We can never change it.’ But suddenly, when it comes to the 14th Amendment, and a provision of the Constitution that’s actually expanding rights to people of color, suddenly well, it’s an archaic document, we have to change it and amend it.”
