After getting thrown out trying to steal third on Saturday, San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton went to let out some frustration by tossing his helmet.
Instead of being slammed into the ground, the helmet got stuck on Upton’s finger and he ended up accidentally throwing the helmet teammate Yonder Alonso’s head, sending Alonso to the ground.
This angered Alonso, and he was shortly removed from the game as a precautionary measure.
“We’re out there competing and that’s a big point in the game and I made a big mistake. I was pretty upset about it. It’s childish. I’ve got to do better than that and not make that mistake again,” Upton said of the incident.
Apparently, Upton and Alonso made up because, according to MLB.com, Alonso made light of the situation on Sunday by showing up in full catcher’s gear. The two teammates also hugged in the dugout.
