Monday on “MSNBC Live,” while discussing Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump’s and Governor Scott Walker’s (R-WI) calls for an end to birthright citizenship, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and Governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell said Republicans, “are careening on a path to even get less of the Hispanic vote than Mitt Romney did. And in key battleground states that makes it almost impossible for them to win.”
After a 2011 poll from the Pew Research Center showing that 57% of Americans oppose amending the Constitution to deny citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants, Rendell was asked if the Democrats are “licking their chops.” Rendell said, “Yes, absolutely. I never would have believed that the Republican party in 2016 was going to do worse among Hispanic voters than Mitt Romney did. But now they are careening on a path to even get less of the Hispanic vote than Mitt Romney did. And in key battleground states that makes it almost impossible for them to win.”
