Tuesday morning it was announced that New York Jets starting quarterback Geno Smith will miss 6-10 weeks due to a fractured jaw suffered after being sucker punched by now-former teammate and linebacker, IK Enemkpali, who was cut by the team shortly after the punch.

“There was an altercation in the locker room,” Jets head coach Todd Bowles said of the incident. “It had nothing to do with football. It was something very childish. He got cold-cocked, sucker punched, whatever you want to call it.”

ESPN analyst and NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter reacted on Tuesday’s “SportsCenter,” blaming Smith’s lack of leadership as the reason he was punched.

“Now, I don’t know what happened, but, for me, it’s a lack of leadership on Geno Smith’s part that he would put himself in harms way to get sucker punched.”
