MO State Sen: Many Officers Like Darren Wilson, ‘Don’t Think About’ ‘Real Lives’

Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D) argued “many officers…feel the same way as Darren Wilson, and they don’t think about the real lives of individuals who are dying every single day in their hands” on Tuesday’s “CNN Newsroom.”

Chappelle-Nadal, in reaction to an interview that former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson did with the New Yorker, said, “We can go back in history, and the same way African-Americans were abused 150 years ago, is the same way people are treated today. And it’s unfortunate, and that means that we have a lot of work to do in the future.”

She added, “There are many officers who are out there, who feel the same way as Darren Wilson, and they don’t think about the real lives of individuals who are dying every single day in their hands. We have to make a change in police departments across this nation, because far too many people are being executed for no good reason every single day.”

Chappelle-Nadal concluded, “You have to really consider at that moment in time, when you have the option to deescalate, why didn’t Darren Wilson use that opportunity to deescalate a situation? And today we have a young man who’s gone, and we have several young men and young women who are African-American who are gone. And that is the reality that we have to face every single day.”
