Cowherd on Female NBA Coach: Like Gays, African-Americans, Immigrants — ‘People Don’t Like Change’

On ESPN Radio show “The Herd,” host Colin Cowherd reacted Thursday to NBA commissioner Adam Silver saying “no doubt” former WNBA and now San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon or any other woman could be a head coach in the NBA after Hammon coached the Spurs to the NBA’s Summer League championship.

Cowherd likened the treatment of gays, African-Americans and immigrants to having a female head coach of a NBA team by saying the pushback is because “people don’t like change and they don’t like what they perceive to be losing power.”

“I think, you know, look at how we treated gays. Look at how we have treated African-Americans. Look at how we’re treating often immigrants. People don’t like change and they don’t like what they perceive to be losing power. If Becky, are you going to tell me are you going to give another head coaching to an ex-Laker, like Becky Hammon doesn’t deserve the job if qualified?”
