The first trailer for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s “The Revenant” dropped online this week, and it looks like a doozy.
Fresh off Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for last year’s “Birdman,” Inarritu’s “The Revenant” stars Leonardo DiCaprio as 1820s fur trapper Hugh Glass, who sets out on a quest for vengeance after having been mauled by a bear and left for dead in the wilderness by his own hunting team.
The film is based on Michael Punke’s novelization of Glass’s story, “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge.”
Tom Hardy, who worked with DiCaprio on “Inception,” joins his former castmate for the revenge thriller, while two-time Oscar-winner Emanuel Lubezki (“Birdman,” “Gravity”) handles cinematography duties.
The film is due out this Christmas in limited release before expanding to wide release in January.
