USWNT’s Christie Rampone on Pay Equity: There’s Definitely a Pay Gap

While appearing on Thursday’s “Varney & Company” on Fox Business Network, U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team captain Christie Rampone responded to a question about the pay gap for men’s soccer, as opposed to women’s soccer.

It is reported that, despite the women drawing in significantly better ratings, the U.S. Women’s National Team earned $2 million for winning the World Cup compared to the Germany Men’s National Team, who brought home $35 million for winning the 2014 World Cup.

Rampone said that there is definitely a pay gap and that the U.S. women soccer players are working to close that gap.

“There’s definitely a gap between the salaries, and as a female athlete, we’re always pushing and continuing to try to make that money raise and get a little higher but it is a work in progress so hopefully with the success we will see some increases in pay.”
