Former Spokane NAACP head Rachel Dolezal said that Bruce Jenner’s Vanity Fair story “resonated” with her in some ways on Wednesday’s “Today” on NBC.
Dolezal was asked (relevant exchange beings around 3:30) if she considered her story to be similar to being transgendered. She responded that he hadn’t thought of it that way, but added that after reading the Jenner story “I cried. I cried. Because I resonated with some of the themes of isolation, of being misunderstood, to not know if you have a conversation with somebody, will that relationship then end because they have seen you as one way?”
Earlier, she declared, “I definitely am not white. Nothing about being white describes who I am. I’m more black than I am white. That’s the accurate answer from my truth.” Although, she conceded that she had engaged in some “creative non-fiction” regarding the “timeline and logistics” of her life.
