On Friday’s Laura Ingraham radio show broadcast, House Trade Subcommittee Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) warned that if the controversial Trade Promotion Authority legislation considered by the House of Representatives Friday.
According to Burgess, once the TPA is set in motion, it’s difficult to stop it.
“The off-switch is exactly identical to the off-switch we had on the DHS appropriation,” he explained. “It’s only useful if you pull it. And, we wouldn’t. So, I don’t have a lot of confidence in an off switch, certainly right now.”
The Texas Republican went on to question as to why House leadership, in particular Speaker John Boehner, would trust President Barack Obama, especially as Boehner has a lawsuit pending against the administration regarding the president’s immigration policy.
“The Speaker is suing the president because he won’t follow the law,” he added. “Why would we give them additional authority? I can’t for the life of me understand why.”
