Whoopi to Seinfeld, Quinn: ‘Have the Balls to Accept’ You Are Offensive

Thursday on ABC’s “The View,” comedian and co-host Whoopi Goldberg took on comedians Colin Quinn and Jerry Seinfeld for their comments that political correctness has gotten out of control in America society by explaining that comics are sometimes offensive and they should own up to it.

Goldberg said, “Listen, comics are always offensive. That’s our job. We offend everybody, you know, but having been on the other side of some of these jokes, yeah, people don’t want to hear them. Gay people may not want to be referenced that way. I  think they have the right to say that, and I think we’ve got to find other ways to be funny if that’s what it is. If you feel like it’s too hard to be funny without perhaps offending somebody, maybe you should find different stuff.”

Goldberg added, “They’re not on the other end of it, and that’s what makes it tricky. There are consequences. If you’re going to do it, have the balls to accept when people don’t like it. It’s just the way it is when people speak up now. They didn’t used to. They took a lot of these jokes and never said a word. Now people are not taking it, and you got to make a decision I think, as a comic. I don’t care people are offended. You know what I do. If you come to my show, that’s what you’re going to get.”
