Sunday on MSNBC’s “Taking The Hill,” in contrast to the findings of veteran journalist Bob Woodward, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) accused President George W. Bush of a “gross misrepresentation’ of the treat of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass distraction in the buildup to the 2003 Iraq war.
Pelosi said, “Let me say this, at the time we were taking the vote, I had been the senior Democrat on the Intelligence Committee. My statement was the intelligence does not support the threat. The terminology — knowing what we know now, no, knowing what we knew then, there was no, the intelligence did not support. The there was a gross misrepresentation to the American people as to the tensions and capacity of the Iraqi government in terms of weapons of mass destruction. It was wrong then. The intelligence wasn’t there and I’m proud to say that a majority of our House Democrats voted against the war because the intelligence did not support the threat. So to hear the conversation of knowing what we know now — no, knowing what we knew then, it was wrong, and it was misrepresented by the Bush/Cheney administration to the American people. I think we have to get the record straight on that.”
